Video Review: Truth Francisco shares darkly poignant video for his single ‘She Running’

On ‘She Running,’ acclaimed Houston artist ‘Truth’ Francisco dives into the sinister reality behind how domestic violence happens.

Houston hip-hop artist Truth Francisco has shared the eye-opening video for his domestic violence-themed single ‘She Running.’ The track is one of several releases that show he has become a highly articulate and exciting voice in rap music.

Raised in Acres Home, Truth’s life has been defined by the various battles he’s had to fight from a very young age. The artist was drawn to music – and, in particular, rap music – as a way to help him process a series of close personal tragedies. Truth has revealed that he experienced three significant losses early in his life – that of his father, his baby cousin, and his older cousin, who was murdered. Each event fueled Truth’s desire to live his life to the fullest – and dedicate himself to his music.

As an adult, he left the streets behind him and moved closer to his ultimate desire – to be counted among the greatest hip-hop artists ever. Truth has spent years perfecting his art – inspired by legendary artists like Tupac Shakur, Pimp C, Kendrick, and J. Cole, as well as newer figureheads like Lil Baby.

Fans have had a chance to enjoy the fruits of his labor, as Truth has shared numerous projects in recent years. His crowning achievement was undoubtedly the release of his Truth Tell No Lies album. The album features several of Truth’s most notable songs to date, including ‘For Real,’ ‘Holding On,’ and the incredible ‘She Running’ featuring the talents of Johny Romano.

‘She Running’ is a dark meditation on relationships, break-ups, love triangles, deceit, and how this can spill over into very actual domestic violence situations. The music video for ‘She Running,’ directed by Trayvon Williams and Truth himself, plays out an imagined scenario where a man (played by Truth) confronts his partner (played by Sade Jones) about her indiscretions.

The video builds in tension throughout its entire six minutes. Initially, we witness the couple at odds with each other – arguing, giving each other cold shoulders, and replaying happy memories as they wonder where they went wrong. But it takes a sinister twist as both the break-up – and the song’s lyrics – become more desperate. Johny Romano is the spanner in the works in this scenario, the interloper that Sade’s character has been cheating with. As Sade’s character visits Johny one night, she’s kidnapped by her now ex-lover and forced into the boot of his car. With this devastating moment, the meaning of the song’s title – ‘She Running’ – becomes clear; it’s about a partner running from an abusive situation but not getting out in time.

As with all of Truth Francisco’s music videos, the ‘She Running’ video is sharply directed, exquisitely acted, and packed with emotional punches. As an artist, Truth is well on the way to fulfilling his plan of becoming one of the greats.
