Will Smith Issues An Apology To The Academy and Chris Rock

“Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally,” he wrote. “I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.”
Although Will Smith understands that “Violence in all forms is poisonous and destructive,” it didn’t change all the opinions that swarmed immediately after the incident about whether or not Smith was right or wrong. Smith made sure to also apologize to the Academy, the producers of the show, all the attendees and everyone watching around the world. Will also apologized to the family of tennis stars Venus and Serena Williams and those involved with the film for which he won his best actor award on Sunday.
“I deeply regret that my behavior has stained what has been an otherwise gorgeous journey for all of us,” he wrote. “I am a work in progress.”
There was a statement circulating that was allegedly from Chris Rock. It consisted of an apology from Chris Rock to Will and Jada. A representative for Chris Rock later confirmed that “Chris Rock has not yet issued a statement.” It seems that everyone from Will’s Mom to Chris’s Brother Tony Rock has chimed in on their thoughts. It was first alleged that Will was asked to leave the venue but that was immediately clarified and updated that some members wanted him to leave but since no decision was made, he was in fact never asked to leave. Things still continue to unfold in regard to this unfortunate matter. I hope that both parties will soon be able to move forward.
