EMPIRE Presents: The New Africa Powered by Pandora’ High-Energy Showcase at Stubb’s

By  |
EMPIRE held their first showcase for night two of SXSW music ‘The New Africa’ at Stubb’s Bar-B-Q. The venue was hosted by Nigerian comedian and actor Basketmouth and DJ Poizon Ivy, featured performances by label artists and current Afrobeats trailblazers BNXN FKA Buju, Cheque, Fireboy DML, June Freedom, L.A.X., Wande Coal, and more. In addition to Pandora, the event was sponsored by Monster Energy and Puma.

“If you could harness the energy in the crowd and onstage at the New Africa showcase on Wednesday night, you could — unlike ERCOT — power the entire state of Texas. A collection of artists bringing the Afrobeat sound to a wide audience, the lineup included masters of the craft like Cape Verdean singer June Freedom and Nigeria’s Fireboy DML, BNXN, and Superboy Cheque. But it was the fans assembled that were the real show. Their cheers were the sound of elation, recognition, and, most of all, connection.” – Rolling Stone

Stubb’s was definitely the venue to be at during SXSW as there was never a dull night!
