Are Blockbuster Movies Becoming a Thing of the Past?

The holiday season is usually super busy at the box office but this year was dismal. Brad Pitt’s “Babylon” had a budget of $80 million but brought in only $5.3 million in ticket sales. “Avatar: The Way of Water” made $287 million but it’s far cry from the $2 billion James Cameron says the film needs to break even. Variety senior awards editor Clayton Davis says “the movie business right now is in a little bit of pain, we are not on life support but I think we are on the way to the ICU.”
