Dp0mmy following up Bitter Orange with more positive energy and good tunes

By  |
Dp0mmy has been consistently dropping albums for the last three years now, and he doesn’t plan on stopping anytime soon.  Since the release of the 18-track Pomology in May of 2020, he has dropped a whopping five albums, with his songs and production getting better and better with each release.  He is coming off the release of Bitter Orange, a 16-track effort that features 15 different artists and was inspired by his recent relocation to Atlanta.

“This release was inspired by [my move] to Atlanta and being around crazily talented people on a daily basis,” said the St. Louis native, whose stage name is derived from his actual name Daniel Pomerantz.  “I felt their energy and it made me want to go even harder with my music and curation.”

“Crazily talented people” is a good way to describe Dp0mmy and the MCs who bless our ears with rapid fire flows and punchline-laden verses. A highlight is “Fond of Plants”, where Gnarly Marley and Marco Plus spit bars over a beat that fellow St. Louis native Smino would approve of.  “Cerebral” is a soul-infused cut that features Silky Southern, and Ben Clark collaboration “Psychedelephant” would fit well on a Madlib project. The title track Bitter Orange is a jazzy interlude with no lyrics and album closer “Without Me” sounds more like M83 than your typical Atlanta hip-hop.  The best part is that Dp0mmy hasn’t been producing for that long; the recent Davidson University graduate didn’t even start producing until he got to college!

It would not be a stretch to say that Pomerantz is a busy man. The two album per year trend looks like it will continue, in addition to separate collaborations with MCs near and far.  It’s shaping up to be a productive and exciting year for the talented producer.

“I plan to keep dropping albums and producing for all the peeps that I work with,” he said.  “I also want to continue diversifying my sound and working with new artists [while pushing] boundaries with love and good vibes.”
