Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ Returns To Billboard 38 Years Later

Thriller hit the Billboard top 10 on June 30, 1984, placing at No. 8. Upon its initial release in November 1983 Michael Jackson’s Thriller spent 37 non-consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Thriller featured seven singles: “The Girl Is Mine”, “Billie Jean”, “Beat It”, “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’ ”, “Human Nature”, “P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)”, and “Thriller.” It was Executive produced by Quincy Jones. Despite the multiple release, “Beat It,” and “Billie Jean” were the only ones that peaked at No. 1.

The Jackson estate has partnered with Sony Music Entertainment to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Thriller with an official documentary. The film is directed by music historian Nelson George and in production. Thriller 40, a double-CD set released on Nov. 18 and included one disc featuring the original Thriller album and another with unreleased songs recorded for the album. On Nov 20th, the American Music Awards announced that Chris Brown would no longer be performing. Chris promptly posted a video that comprised of a homage to Thriller. The video also included his female dance match, Ciara. The video would later attain 11.7M views in his stories yet the AMAs only attained 3.3M views on its debut.
