Sad Day in Hip-Hop As, Hovain Hylton, One Of It’s Beloved Managers Dies Today
Friday, November 25, Jonathan ‘Hovain’ Hylton passed away while at his home. His family confirmed the unfortunate news today on social media while the cause of his passing is still unknown.
I met Hovain some years ago while at an event. At the time he was working with Dave East and telling me how dope he was. I quickly cut him off and asked “Why are you always in a corner? Must be a Brooklyn thing.” He laughed and said “How do you know I’m from Brooklyn?” I said “Because Brooklyn dudes always check out their surroundings and know where all the exits.” He laughed again and replied “makes sense” then went right back to talking about Dave. At the time, I was trying to set an interview with Wale. Another artist that he worked with on and off. Later I would find out that Hovain also worked with Busta Rhymes, Lloyd Banks, Joey Badas$$, Troy Ave, Rob Markman, Young Guru, and Karen Civil.
Disappointment and disbelief continues to pour into social media about Hovain. The morning of his death Hovain tweeted:
Good morning and thank GOD for another day.

Young Guru, who was managed by Hovain, wrote: “I have no words. I loved this man. He was more than my manager he was my brother. I swear this is too much. RIP my brother [six broken heart emojis] @hovain you were special.” We are praying for his family and friends.
Wow

Hovain was one of the kindest, most involved, supportive and loving friends and collaborators you could ever have. Man this hurts.
