From The Apple Music Charts To Sold out Shows, We Sit down with one of Toronto’s Hottest upcoming Rappers
What hometown are you repping?
I’m repping Brampton, Ontario in Canada, which is a suburb of the six, it’s crazy to be honest cause I’m in such deep gratitude to have grown up in a multicultural and wildly diverse city with a wide range of tastes in music, film, food, sports etc. It’s how I developed and grew into the person I am today.
What are some of your influences?
My influences for me growing up and developing as an artist started with Michael Jackson, Usher and Justin Timberlake but since then has developed into Kendrick Lamar, Frank Ocean and Andre 3000. At the same time I wouldn’t necessarily say anyone influences me now as a human being and as an artist simply because I have grown into my own sound, into my own style and brand. Guys like Kendrick and Frank for me are more so inspirations, they’re human beings that I observe and study through their craft but internalize and mold into my own formula that manifests into who Christian Mariconda is as an essence.
What has been your biggest accomplishment as an artist so far?
Well how far I’ve come in my approach to my creative process is a monument in itself, but the biggest accomplishment to this day in my career would be peaking at #16 for a record I did titled “Braggadocious” on Apple Music’s Hip-Hop/Rap Charts in Canada. That was a special moment for me and my team, to know how much my fans and the people were connecting and resonating to a record of mine, and partly I think it’s because the chorus was me rapping in spanish (laughs).
What are some of the accomplishments you are aiming for in the near future?
Man I have no ceiling when it comes to where I’m headed. The ceiling for me right now will be the floor I’m walking on before I know it. Simply to put, I’m gonna be one of the greatest rappers to ever do it. Period.
Tell us about your most recent release. What is it about? What is the message you are conveying through your music?
My newest record “Don’t Overthink ” is the most special song I’ve ever released. It’s a message about tuning into your intuition and not thinking too much about your life, not forcing your hand at any moment whether it’s a good or bad situation. When my heart stays rooted in honesty and authenticity then I move in a place of a higher energy, connected to the highest power. This essentially is the message being conveyed with this record. At my core as a rapper this is the foundation in my music, to always express and connect with the listener and my fans on a grounded level, side by side and face to face in a space of pure truth with them.
How long have you been in the game?
To be real with you I’ve only been in this game for only about a few years now, a lot of trial and error with finding my sound and identity as an artist the last 4 years but the door only opened for me and my team recently to really start executing our long term plan.
What’s your message to your fans?
The message is that I’m simply grateful and would not be here today without their support, their energy and their love for this music that I’m so fortunate to get to work on and do for a living. Without them, there is no Christian Mariconda. Let’s continue to evolve together as a family because that’s who you are to me…. family.
What advice would you like to share with your supporters on how to keep going and staying positive?
I would simply say to always remain curious about yourself and the world around you, never compromise who you are in order to be validated by others. As long as you move with no fear and be rooted in love and authentic energy and unapologetic expression you are unstoppable. There’s no limit to what you can do.
