Art is Dead Vincent Peters

By  |

“Art is Dead” is a collaboration between Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential Person, Cuban artist Luis Manuel Otero Alcàntara and former Elon Musk SpaceX and Starlink alum turned artist, Vincent Peters. “Art is Dead” consists of 50 acrylic and oil pastel paintings capturing pivotal and well-known moments from Cuba’s San Isidro Movement, Patria y Vida and SOS Cuba.

Art is Dead highlights the impact of the Cuban Government’s Decree 349 which criminalizes producing art contrary to government sentiment and ultimately enables the government censorship of the entire artistic community. In 2021, Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara was arrested for creating art that was deemed to be in violation of Decree 349 and was recently sentenced to 5 years in prison for those violations.

Inheritance Art, an artistic organization focused on the promotion of arts, artistic pursuits, and equitable access to artistic expression, has created this collaborative collection with Luisma to share with the world, the struggles Luis Manuel and his fellow Cuban artists face daily. Proceeds from the sale of “Art is Dead” will benefit the Patria y Vida organization and to the Decree 349R Charitable Foundation.
