Top Dallas Performer Zillamatic Shares His Journey to the Top

By  |

When you finally discover what you are passionate about and pursue it relentlessly, you will realize why everything else you tried failed. You will also stand out in your industry, inspiring others to follow their dreams and succeed as you did. California-born, Dallas-based DJ personality Zillamatic is a perfect example of that. For over a decade now, this outstanding performer and producer has made waves in his industry and garnered a reputation through what he describes as his “psychotic antics” on stage. His passion shines through every performance, taking over the room and infusing the same enthusiasm into the listeners. Considering everything he’s achieved today, it might be hard to imagine Zillamatic wasn’t always a performer.

Born and raised in Orange County, California, Zillamatic moved to Dallas, Texas, when he was 19 years old to finish school. However, he never did. Instead, he found himself in corporate America for about 5 years. It was then that he discovered music and started exploring it. Heavily influenced by Skrillex and the dubstep movement at the time, he started bedroom production and grew his skills from there. Zillamatic made his DJing debut in 2016 and quickly rose through the ranks. After two years, he was one of the most in-demand DJs in Dallas, playing at the biggest entertainment venues in the city. In 2018, he was appointed as the director of music for the Bottled Blonde in Dallas.

Passion and consistency are the major contributors to Zillamatic’s success in a very competitive music industry. Once he started, he knew he couldn’t turn back because he loved what he was doing. This meant he had to keep improving, becoming a better performer every day. Zillamatic’s style kept evolving, and today, he’s one of the few performers that can seamlessly flow from one music genre to another. Zillamatic has a unique and energetic, fast-paced mixing style that few can master. This, coupled with his ability to genre hop gracefully, is one of the reasons his career keeps soaring.

Zillamatic admits that his success is the product of hard work and mentorship from other performers. Over the years, he’s been fortunate to share the stage with some of the biggest names in the industry. They include G-Eazy, Waka Flocka, Tory Lanez, Steve Aoki, Acraze, James Hype, SNBRN, Meduza, Snakehips, and Bonnie X Clyde, among others. Zillamatic has also worked with some of the biggest names in the hospitality industry to create and reform the music that plays in their venues. He’s works closely with brands such as Eatz Hospitality (Moxies USA) and has consulted for Harwood international as well

Outside Dallas, Zillamatic has played in top clubs in other cities, such as Parq Nightclub in San Diego, Greystone in Oklahoma, and Up&Down in New York. Now Zillamatic is the director of music at the newly launched Bottled Blonde in Miami. He has also been working on personal projects he recently released on Spotify and Apple Music. Zillamatic is currently working on another project he hopes to release in the summer of 2022.

Zillamatic believes in excellence and paying the kindness he’s received forward. He is always willing to teach other DJs his techniques and show new artists the way. He adds that from experience, he has learned that being genuine and kind to people is always the right move. As he continues growing as a DJ, he also wants to establish a legacy as a producer who helped others find their way in the industry.
