Perfecting His Craft: Meet Houston’s Super Producer CRFT

By  |

Super Producer CRFT born in Houston, TX and residing in Atlanta, GA is one of the most slept on producers in the game today. After releasing his album, “We Will Glow”, he started to see some success come his way. He would go on to release his second studio album titled, “Open Your Eyes” and would burst through the seams. Currently sitting at over 22k monthly listeners and accumulating 50k streams in under 2 weeks, CRFT is well on his way. We asked him how he started his musical journey and he said, “I started piano lessons at age 6, but I’ve been making music seriously since sophomore year in high school (so about 30 years). I started my first indie record label in 2003 with Shaman Work Recordings, which released music by MF DOOM, Emanon (Aloe Blacc and DJ Exile), John Robinson, and Wale Oyejide featuring J. Dilla.” We also asked him, who has he worked with and how was the experience and he said, “working with Blu was beautiful, we got to see our creative relationship come full circle. I met Blu in the early 2000s! He is an amazing lyricist and you can hear his heart on our song “Waiting”. Working with nobigdyl is just so cool. He casually drops amazing bars. He brought so much personality to our hit song “Gratitude” and Aloe Blacc is one of the most talented songwriters in the game. During our time writing “Crazy” together, he amazed me with how quickly he put words together with melody and rhythm.”

CRFT can’t be put into a box and constantly finds new ways to express his creativity. His musical mind is beyond his peers and he uses his life situations and influences to create very authentic music. When asked what features he’d love to get in the future he said, “I want to work with Thom York of Radiohead, Mike Dean, Madlib, DJ Premier, Nas, Solange, Bilal, James Francies, Yebba, Leon Bridges, Tame Impala, and Thundercat.” The versatility across these hopeful collaborations shows just how different CRFT is. He is amongst one of the hardest workers in the music industry and deserves his flowers. COVID was very difficult for a lot of us, but for CRFT, “It helped my career for the better, honestly. COVID helped me lock in creatively and create the best album that I could make. I believe limitations can lead to more creative possibilities.” CRFT is one of the best producers to watch in 2022 and has shown zero signs of slowing down.
