Snoop Dogg Owns Death Row

By  |

Although he only owns the brands and will have to wait on reacquiring some music rights, Snoop Dogg owns the label that started his career Death Row.

In a statement, Snoop said, “I am thrilled and appreciative of the opportunity to acquire the iconic and culturally significant Death Row Records brand, which has immense untapped future value. It feels good to have ownership of the label I was part of at the beginning of my career and as one of the founding members.”

We don’t know how much he paid for it but we do know that in 2006 the label filed bankruptcy and was sold in 2012. Snoop was  heavily featured on Dre’s album “The Chronic,” which sold about 6 million albums on Death Row, and thrusted West Coast gangsta rap into mainstream rotation. When Snoop released “Doggy Style” a year later, it took off selling 11 million units and was deemed one of the fast selling albums by the LA Times.

Chris Taylor, MNRK Music Group’s, President & CEO commented: “Snoop is clearly the executive to take Death Row into its next 30 years. MNRK has been honored to oversee this legendary brand over the last decade and enjoyed introducing it to millions of new fans in 2021 through our award-winning 30th anniversary marketing campaign.”

Snoop’s new album “BODR” (which stands for Bacc on Death Row) is supposed to be released this Sunday, the same day he was scheduled to perform at Super Bowl with Dre, Eminem, Kendrick and MJB. I can’t wait to see what he does with the label! Congrats Uncle Snoop!
