Christmas Hip Hop Playlist

Merry Christmas on and all! As we dial into the holiday spirit, here are our list of tracks that will remind you that hip-hop loves Christmas to.

  1. Sleigh Ride (TLC) – Its the 3rd track on A Laface Family Christmas, A compilation Christmas album of various artists who were signed to LaFace records 25 years ago. T-Boz, Left Eye and Chilli once again remind us why they will always weigh supreme. Rest in Power to Left Eye.

2. Christmas in Hollis (Run DMC) -In 1987, over 34 years ago, Run DMC dropped this Christmas classic that appeared on not one but two compilation albums. The video is what you would expect from the trio, big rope chains, hats and Adidas track suits. Of course Queens didn’t really look this way, but the lyrics made you think you was hanging in the hood.

3. I Am the Grinch (Tyler, the Creator) –  This track was featured on Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch soundtrack, where Tyler created a new song and added a hip hop cover version of the song “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch”. Released in 2018, it features Fletcher Jones and puts a cool spin on the man Christmas loves to hate.

4. Drummer Boy (Justin Bieber featuring Busta Rhymes) Justin knew what he was doing when he tapped legendary Hip Hop Icon Busta Rhymes to transport the Drummer Boy to place Christmas didn’t know existed. The song is fun and Busta brings the energy. Released in 2011, it still goes hard and the beat is ridiculous.

5. Christmas in Harlem (Kanye West) – This track brought out Harlem with features by Cam’ron, Vado, Teyana Taylor, and Jim Jones. Ye made sure to add Big Sean, Music Soulchild, Pusha T and Cyhi the Prynce to the mix. Released in 2010, Teyana kicks of the chorus with, “Christmas in Harlem, Right after autumn falls, Soakin’ it all in, Then we go hit the mall, Even though we ain’t ballin’, Feel like we bought it all , The mistletoe’s right here, Come give a kiss to Santa Claus.” The three minute track felt more like an eternity and ended up squashing beefs in the interim.
