Wynn “All the Same”, TikTok and Hip Hop

By  |

Going viral on dance apps such as TikTok, Dubsmash, Triller and even the new Instagram addition “Reels” can take an artist’s reach from hundreds and multiply it to millions of people. In hip hop’s current climate good music spreads, and that’s exactly what happened with California rapper Wynn.

Wynn’s song All the Same, produced by LongHaul Music Group labelmate Sean Ross, has earned millions of video posts on dance apps between 2019 and present day, and millions of streams as well.

In 2018 the co-creator of Drake’s ‘Toosie Slide’ dance, Toosie, posted an Instagram video of himself and friends dancing to Wynn’s song ‘All the Same’ on his feed.  Almost immediately afterwards,  dancers and creators on Instagram and Dubsmash followed suit with dance challenges, taking it to the next level.

After thousands of users danced to it on Dubsmash, the trend made its way to TikTok, and by the summer of 2019 millions of users had posted videos to an “original sound” of the song uploaded by a young fan. ‘Original sounds’ were an option in the early days of Tik Tok, where users could provide their own songs for the audio upload rather than choose from TikTok’s music library.  This was the beginning of the era of songs blowing up on TikTok, making “All the Same” a classic in the dance community.

In 2020 TikTok reported that over 70 artists were signed to major labels from going viral.  With music and social media becoming more hand in hand, fans now more than ever decide what’s hot and what’s not.  It can also be seen that some of the most popular songs of the year were from some of the usual suspects such as Drake’s “Toosie Slide” and Cardi B & Megan Thee Stallion’s “WAP”, while others were from more relatively unknown artists experiencing super viral moments.

Wynn, who still remains independent,  believes that the impact his music has made through this experience has familiarized his name and songs with millions of people, providing a base for his future plans.  In 2021 he plans on taking the viral single to the next level with a major music video and possibly an official remix, along with releasing much more new music to follow.

Wynn can be found on all music streaming services.  Wynn’s Instagram can be found at @wynnartist , Wynn’s TikTok can be found at @wynn805 .
