She started off doing inner city hip hop/pop events in her hometown of Birmingham, Alabama in venues like Zydeco, Tin Roof, Haven, El Sol and progressed into doing music videos for local artists. Concerts/events have always made me feel free growing up. From attending concerts like Jonas Brothers, Twenty One Pilots, etc. I loved the feeling of being able to not have a care in the world for a few hours and just drown in the world of music. As a photographer, I enjoyed the feeling of being on the other side of the fence for once and capturing these moments instead of just being the fan all the time and it’s a beautiful experience. Both in and out of the fan zone.
Tyra is the youngest of 2 children (she has an older brother, Michael Grayson) and was raised by her mother Cheryl Grayson, and her grandparents Art and Barbara Grayson.
Tyra’s goal is to become one of the biggest music photographers in history, and to tour with artists and document day to day lives of current and rising stars. Tyra pursued photography a little over 3 years ago, encouraged by her late grandfather, Arthur Grayson, who also was a musician/blues guitarist and owned a t-shirt printing company (Art Grayson Co.) Tyra worked alongside him, printing t shirts and learning design elements. Before TGDShotIt, Tyra was once a musician, as well as a basketball player growing up, her actions, and inspiration also comes from the late NBA Legend Kobe Bryant, she has always used Bryant’s “Mamba Mentality” to not only get her through life, basketball games and practices, but the music industry as well.
Tyra hopes to give back to all up and coming artists as well as the people who have supported her along the way and build bridges for upcoming portrait and music photographers who may be interested in this for the long run.
Grayson states “I want to be a role model for people in the industry or the creative field in general, and get younger kids into the world of photography and design and help them find and strengthen their artistic abilities. I want to be a way in for the creatives that are afraid to take risks and afraid to venture out. I want to help them build that confidence and change the world around me by doing so.”
