Celebrities are reacting to the death of “Boyz in the Hood” and “Poetic Justice” director John Singleton

Famed filmmaker John Singleton has been taken off life support Monday after suffering a stroke less than two weeks ago.

A spokesperson for the 51-year-old’s family told Page Six in part, “It is with heavy hearts we announce that our beloved son, father, and friend, John Daniel Singleton will be taken off of life support today. This was an agonizing decision, one that our family made, over a number of days, with the careful counsel of John’s doctors.”

Singleton had been in a coma after suffering a major stroke April 17th in Los Angeles while receiving treatment at the hospital.

Singleton, 51, the first black filmmaker nominated for the best director Oscar award, is known for films like “Boyz n the Hood” and “Poetic Justice.”

Singleton fans, peers, and colleagues are expressing condolences today on social media.
