Meet Kelsey Martinez, the Oakland Raiders first female assistant coach
The NFL currently has one female strength and conditioning coach listed on any of their teams’ websites, and it is 26-year-old Raiders coach Kelsey Martinez.
Coach Jon Gruden called her “spectacular” at the annual league meeting earlier this offseason and added a “wait ’till you meet her” to his glowing comments on the Colorado State University grad.
Martinez is the only current female strength and conditioning coach in the league after the 49ers hired Katie Sowers as an offensive assistant in 2017 and the Bills hired Kathryn Smith as the team’s full-time special teams quality control coach. Martinez is not the first female to serve in her role in league history. That distinction is that of Lee Brandon with the NY Jets coaching staff in 1990.
