Ether was a great diss, but musically it was actually weak.

Hit Em Up was a great diss and was actually good musically, a song you could enjoy besides the diss.

I give it to Hit EM Up because it gave artist the nuts to call out names on records.
Before that, rappers was always on some girly subliminal shot stuff (like Jay-z still does til this day even when it's clear who he beefing with).

However, Hit Em Up was a vicious track, very personal with disrespect, and it got people killed (I mean the result of the diss was that effective, tho it's over street stuff they got killed. song was an element in the whole melee).

Hit Em Up gave rapper balls when it came to diss tracks.

Ether was the next best thing most great dis track since Hit Em Up, classic.

When You diss a dude it's called Ether. Classic

On the street when they bring it to their foe it's Hit Em Up. Classic

P.S when your career is done by a diss it's Ja Ruled. (Haha)

Lol Docone u always reply with they smart ass well thought out replys non ignorant response. Thats i fucks wit you. That Diss was huge. All the things u said were true. Ether lacked a hook and i wouldnt listen to it if it wasnt a diss even though Ron browz did make a bomb ass beat. But i thought when Jigga said " i left condoms in the baby seat" i thought niggas was gonna die. Ether was stronger lyrical. But i always stress.. ITS NOT ALWAYS ABOUT LYRICS. So idk. Good response though

Funny, enough thats all i really remember about Jay-z's diss, the condom remark. Everyone really thought it was over.
But see, it was still hip hop and Nas reminded everyone of that by having a whole song with intense lyricism on Jay-z's behind.
Jay-z had the one-liner about the condom but Nas awoke with so many truth against him while showing his skills at the same time. Skill was all that matter in the end and Nas used his better.
Jay-z was taking the road he tend to attempts on any MCs, "I'm bigger than you". Didn't work, NAs destroyed him.

Ether= The historic defeat of Jay-z.
